William Grant Jernigan

William Grant Jernigan of Newport, Oregon passed away at Graceland Care Home on December 16, 2017 at the age of 91. William was born to Floyd Jernigan and Mildred Taylor on January 17, 1926 in Portland, Oregon.
Bill was married to Dorothy A. Jernigan in Portland, Oregon and they had four children: William D. Jernigan, Teri Jernigan, Michael G. Jernigan and Nancy Jernigan. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943, was stationed in the islands off the East Coast during WWII and served as a radioman. He was known as the ‘Jitterbug King’ on the east coast. Before moving to the coast he owned and operated a Shell Station in Portland. Bill also established Pacific Coast Plumbing, Inc. in 1966 and worked up to the age of 90. Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Newport Boosters and Lions. He was an avid golfer, loved sport fishing and bird hunting.
Bill is survived by his sister Mildred Talbot of Wilsonville, OR; son William D. (Wendy) Jernigan of Newport; daughter Teri (Jack Skriver) Jernigan of Newport; son Michael G. Jernigan of Toledo; and daughter Nancy Jernigan of Redmond; grandsons: Jesse Jernigan and Taylor Jernigan; great grandchildren: Jesse Jr. and Hollie Jernigan; nieces: Jana Lane and Sally Grimes. He is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Jernigan; father Floyd Jernigan and mother Mildred Taylor.
There are no services planned. Donations may be made to Newport Lions in his name. Arrangements are being entrusted to Bateman Funeral Home.
