COVID Policies

Published: April 15, 2021

Health and safety is of the utmost importance at Bateman Funeral Home, which is why, since the beginning of the pandemic, we have instituted strict procedures to keep our families and staff safe.

Bateman Funeral Home has been working closely with the Lincoln County Medical Examiner, the Lincoln County Health Department and Lincoln County Emergency Operations Center, during this time to ensure they are taking all of the steps they can to protect their families and employees. Since before the pandemic, Bateman has been on the Emergency Operations team so that we would be ready to deal with an emergency situation if it happened.

To protect our staff and families, our office is open by appointment only for both at-need and pre-need appointments. There is one conference room being used at this time which is cleaned before and after appointments. Before every appointment, we clean the surfaces of the room and there is a clear barrier between the funeral director and family to offer extra protection. Everyone who comes to the funeral home will use the outside phone which will alert the funeral home that someone has arrived. A staff member will come to open the door, which is locked at all times.

When families visit the funeral home, there will be a sign-in form and a sanitation station with face coverings and hand sanitizer. The arrangement room is cleaned before each appointment to ensure everyone’s safety. Staying at least 6 feet apart is a primary COVID-19 prevention strategy recommended by the CDC, and it is something that we have taken very seriously in our precautionary measures.

Measures we have implemented:

Staff wearing face coverings

Thorough disinfection of all surfaces after each family meeting and service, including door knobs and handles, furniture, and pens.

Hand sanitizer stations for families and their guests in funeral home lobbies

Limiting guests in each area to give enough space for social distancing.

Spacing chairs in chapels or cemeteries 6 feet apart or roping off every other chapel pew from use.

Offering live streamed services for family and friends who are not comfortable attending in person. Learn more about livestreamed funeral etiquette.

Remote options:

We can do both funeral and pre-arrangements over the phone, fax or through email. All documents can be signed through Docusign to allow no-contact arrangements. Funerals and memorial services can be live streamed through our website as well as include any services to be embedded into the online obituary, such as a visitation service or memorial. Every family is offered an online obituary where loved ones can sign the online guestbook, leave condolences and even send flowers to a service. We can also include a tribute video to the online obituary.

Bateman Funeral Home is committed to the health and safety of our families and doing our part to stop the spread of COVID-19.
