The Bateman Funeral Home Scholarship has been awarding scholarships to high school seniors and college students since 2015. This year, Bateman gave out four scholarships. The scholarship can be applied toward a college, university, or trade school of the student’s choice.
Congratulations to the 2022 Bateman Funeral Home Scholarship winners: Novalee Thomas from Waldport High School, Adrian Mobley from Newport High School, Itzel Arizmendi from Eddyville Charter School and Tyler Quillian from Newport High School.
The scholarship winner from Waldport High School is Novalee Thomas. She will be continuing her education at Linn Benton. Novalee wants to become a X-ray technician because she wants to help people but does not like blood.
There were two scholarship winners from Newport High School! Adrian Mobley was recently accepted to OSU to study computer and electrical engineering. He wants to work in the field for a few years before becoming a teacher. Tyler Quillian was awarded the other scholarship for Newport High School. He will be attending OSU next year majoring in Business Administration to help grow his photography business.
The scholarship winner from Eddyville Charter School is Itzel Arizmendi. She will be attending OSU next year to study public health to become a public health administrator. She wants to work in public health because she wants to use her skills as a bilingual person to help others.
This year, Bateman awarded their 30th scholarship. The Bateman Funeral Home Scholarship is awarded every year to honor the Bateman family, and especially Judy and Gene Bateman, and their dedication to education.
“Judy and Gene Bateman felt very strongly about education, as do I,” said Brian Norris, Managing Partner. “So, in 2015 we came up with the Bateman Scholarship to honor their legacy that they started as Lifetime Boosters of Newport High School. Bateman is proud to help support our amazing youth and help them achieve their dreams.” Brian Norris presented the scholarship awards to all the scholarship recipients.
