Charles Joseph Klima

Charles Joseph Klima, 89 of Newport, Oregon passed away peacefully, December 11, 2015 at River Bend/Peace Health Hospital, Springfield, OR, with his daughter and family by his side. Charles was born February 7, 1926 in Burton, Ohio to Joseph Frank Klima and Veronica (Cimmel) Klima. He was raised on his family's farm in Middlefield, OH and attended Windsor, OH grade school through the 8th grade. He served as Military Police in the Army during WWII. After military service he married Iva Jane (Wright) Klima in Middlefield, OH on May 21, 1949 and came to Oregon for their honeymoon. They then made Newport, Oregon their home and had one daughter, Ava Evonne. Chuck worked for a short while in the woods with his father-in-law Lee Gibson, and then found his long time career as a Longshoreman at Yaquina Bay Dock and Dredge from 1950 to his retirement in 1991. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus and a proud member of The Bay City Cruisers Antique Car Club. Chuck had a real love of all automobiles, especially his 1953 Ford Pickup, which he had restored from the ground up and had earned many awards and trophies from car shows and parades held from Portland down to the Southern Oregon Coast. Chuck is survived by his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Ava and Les Bridges of Enterprise, OR.; granddaughter and spouse, MacKenzie and Todd Rodgers, of Star, ID.; grandson and spouse, Marcus and Ashley Bridges of Eugene, OR.; and two great-grandsons Weston and Carson Rodgers of Star, ID.; he is also survived by a sister-in-law, and a brother-in-law in Ohio and several nieces and nephews in Oregon and Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Vera; his loving wife of 64 years, Iva Jane; brothers: Richard (Margie), Joseph Jr. (Edna), and Frank; sister, Veronica; brother-in-law, Michael Wright; and sister-in-law Helen Wright; nephews: Carl Klima and David Klima. A service will be held January 30, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Newport, Oregon. Father Palmer will be officiating; interment at Eureka Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of Ava Bridges 805 E Greenwood St. Enterprise, OR 97828. Arrangements are being entrusted to Bateman Funeral Home
