Curtis M Lake

Curtis M. Lake passed away peacefully and with dignity on March 10th at his home in Waldport, Oregon surrounded by family. Curtis was born at home February 6, 1931 in Winchester, VA, son of Arthur Lake and Florence (Orndorff). After his mother passed when Curtis was an infant, he was taken in briefly by his Grandparents and then cared for to adulthood by his Uncle and Aunt, Philip and Maggie Orndorff of Strasburg, VA. Curtis graduated from Strasburg High School in 1948. He attended Taylor University in Indiana and graduated from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. He was a US Navy Veteran of the Korean War and trained to be a Navy pilot. He was a member of the Strasburg Presbyterian Church, the Moose Lodge of Waldport, and a former officer and long-standing member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. Survivors include daughter, Rebecca Benson and husband, Larry of Waldport; and his son, Robert and wife, Ann of Abingdon, MD. "Pop Pop" is also survived by his adored grandchildren and their mutually loved partners, Emily Lake and fiancé, Tucker Snow of Towson, MD, and Brian Lake and wife, Lindsey (Troxel) of Hamilton, NJ, two brothers, Philip A. Orndorff of Strasburg and Robert Orndorff of Toms Brook, VA and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Mary (VonDeLinde) in 2009, his beloved wife of 54 years; his sister, Thelma Shelly of White Post, VA; brother, Jack Lake of Winchester, VA; brother Jerry Orndorff of Arlington, VA; brother, Jack Orndorff of Strasburg, VA; and a sister, Patsy Flores of Laredo, TX. Throughout the years Curt and Mary forged meaningful, and enduring friendships with people of similar values - regardless of where in the world they were. To Curt and Mary, friends became family and family became friends. In his recent years, Curt embraced the Oregon culture and formed many friendships in the Waldport/Newport community. Arrangements are being handled by Bateman Funeral Home, Newport, OR. A graveside burial beside Mary in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Toms Brook, VA will be held at a future date. Curt has requested donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
