In Loving Memory of Gerald James Charland Jr. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Waldport resident Gerald “Jim” James Charland Jr., a man whose kindness, warmth, and love touched the lives of so many. Jim passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany, OR. He was born on July 4, 1945 in Woonsocket, RI and was 81 when he passed. Jim entered into the U.S. Army November 16, 1965 serving in the 1/26 infantry “Big Red One”. Jim received a Bronze star medal and was honorably discharged November 5, 1967. He worked in Aerospace at TRW in Manhattan Beach, CA until retiring in 2000. Jim moved to Waldport, OR in 2004 where he has resided ever since. He enjoyed polishing rocks, quilting, genealogy and spending time with family and friends. Jim was very patriotic and worked closely helping his fellow Vietnam veterans with the First Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment Association. He was loved by many and lived life to the fullest, embracing every moment with joy, laughter, and an appreciation for the people around him. His caring heart and generous spirit made everyone feel welcome. Whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or someone he had just met, he had a remarkable way of making everyone feel at home. A devoted husband, father, family member, and friend, he will be remembered for his unwavering love, compassion, and willingness to help anyone who crossed his path. His legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to live on through the many lives he touched. Although he will be deeply missed, we take comfort in the memories he gave us, the love he shared, and the example he set. His spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnne Biron; his sisters, Diane Bean and Marie Schantz; his sons, Matthew and Timothy and daughter, Michelle Charland; three granddaughters, Kayleigh, Alyssa and Maxine Charland; four nephews; one niece; and several extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald J. Charland and Jeanne A. (Begin) Charland and son, Ryan Charland May he rest in peace, forever loved and never forgotten.
