Jack Millspaugh Jordan

Jack Jordan, 89, of Newport died at home July 12, 2015. He was born to parents Roman M. Jordan and Addy May Millspaugh in Adrian, North Dakota, November 18, 1925. He was the third of four children. He was the son of a winter wheat farmer, and in 1929 they had to sell the farm and move to Oregon, first settling in the Marshfield area and eventually moving to Milwaukie. At 16 he went to work in the ship yards at Bremerton, WA. At 18 he joined the US Army and was stationed in Germany as a supply depot guard. Jack met Janie when they were children and their families had nearby farms on Mt. Scott, in Portland, Oregon. When he returned from Europe they got married May 29, 1948. In 1959, he and Jane bought Jordan Distributing Co., and moved to Newport. Jack operated the business until 1985 when the business merged with Pacific Distributors. Jack continued to work for the new owners for several years. Once retired as a beer man, he went to work for Lincoln County Transit driving the City Loop bus and the Dial-a-ride bus. He drove a bus until he was 85 and decided it was time to retire. Jack was active in the Newport JC's, the local Elks Club, the American Legion and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Jack loved dogs and always had a biscuit in his pocket for any dog he met. He enjoyed camping and hunting with family and friends, playing cribbage, golfing and hosting the annual J & J Golf Classic at Crooked River Ranch. He also loved spending time on their property on the Siletz River, mowing and caring for it and hosting many gatherings. Jack was a kind person and went quietly about helping people in small ways whenever he could. He will be remembered for being a gentle man and a true gentleman. Jack is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Janie who died in 2005. He is also preceded in death by brother, Clare "Red" Jordan, and sisters Donna Campbell Cello and Dorothy Marino. Survivors include son, Tim Jordan; daughter, Lyn Sharp; five grandchildren: Angela Stevens, Julie Bradley, Erin Campbell, Sean Sharp and Ian Sharp; ten great grandchildren: Sydney, Sara, Jordan, Kaylee, Evan, William, Kiri, Aidan, Colin, and his namesake Jackson. A memorial Mass and celebration of Jack's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 1, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newport. A reception will follow at the Newport Elks Club. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, to the Humane Society or to the Samaritan Pacific Hospice in Newport. Arrangements are being entrusted to Bateman Funeral Home.
