Katie Lynn Gildersleeve December 21, 1985 ~ June 27, 2016 The year was 1985. President Ronald Regan was sworn in as president for a second term; the charity hit single "We are the World" was recorded to help raise money for the starving in Africa; the average cost for rent was $375 and the cost of a new car was $9000. And on December 21st Katie Lynn was born in Toledo, Oregon to Linda Patt and James Gildersleeve. At birth it seemed that Katie was born bi-lingual. She was fluent in English and Spanish and loved and embraced the Hispanic culture as her own. She had an adventurous spirit and was always up for shenanigans as she and her sister called them. She did not believe in hurting people or animals unjustly. In fact, Katie was so kind hearted that even though she loved to fish, she would only set the hook when she got a bite but she would not reel them in or take out the hook! Katie had a smile that was contagious. She did not want anyone to be unhappy even if she was going through a dark time herself. If she thought, you were unhappy she would not stop until you would smile. Even if that meant she would do the monkey dance...or heaven forbid the full extreme...the naked monkey dance! In high school Katie sang in talent shows and had a voice like an angel. Her favorite singer is Selena. To say that Katie loved dogs would be an understatement. Her favorite pet was her scruffy old pug that she adopted from a shelter. She named him puddin. The family knows that she is celebrating being able to have him in her arms again. Katie was not perfect. But then again...who is? She had her battles with drug addictions and difficult times. But no matter how hard it got with Katie, she was always aware of those around her and loved them unconditionally. If a person was hungry she would feed them even if it meant bringing them to her mom's house to feed them. If they needed a place to sleep she would find a place for them. Katie was a hard worker, a wonderful cook and loved to eat. You could always find Katie by her brilliant smile or distinct laugh. Most of all, Katie loved her family. Her brother and sisters meant the world to her. She had a special bond with her baby sister Adriana; scolding her as well as loving her immensely. Katie always brought small gifts for her "mamma" as she called her mom. Linda, her mom, said that she will forever hear her voice say "I love you mamma."
