Mr. Bill and Mrs. Sandra Stevens

Bill and Sandi died peacefully together on March 28, 2016 at their home in Waldport, Oregon. Bill was born on March 23, 1939 to his parents Harold and Maxine Stevens in Coquille, Oregon. He graduated in 1957 from Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Oregon, then enrolled in the University of Oregon and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961. He worked for General Foods for 25 years before retiring. Sandi was born on April 19, 1947 to her parents David and Shirley DeMoss in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She graduated from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in 1969 and worked at Eugene Hospital and Clinic for 20 years before retiring. After she retired, she enjoyed sewing and crafting. Bill met Sandi in 1977 at a weight loss clinic in Eugene where she was employed. It was "love at first sight" and they married on January 28, 1978. They loved to travel and go camping, first in their motorhome, then later in a travel trailer. Their favorite trip was when they drove across the United States by car to the east coast and back. Their home came alive with family and friends during Thanksgiving week. Bill loved University of Oregon football and track and field. He and his best friend attended football games for 45 years. Their tailgate parties became very popular. They also attended many track meets including the N.C.A.A. Championships and Olympic Trials. Bill was preceded in death by his father, mother and older brother, Hal. Sandi was preceded in death by her father and mother. She is survived by two sisters; Donna Hiebert and Joanna Scott. Bill and Sandi were survived by their children: son Ray Stevens and his wife Anna Stevens; daughters Trudi Newman, her husband Dan Newman; Mindi Krummel and her husband Robin Krummel; Amy Sullivan and her husband Joseph Sullivan; grandchildren: Tabatha Stevens; Sabreena Cook and her husband Blair Cook; Travis Newman; Brittani Krummel; Kyli McLaughlin and her husband Jeremy McLaughlin; Caitlin Savard and her husband Robbie Savard; two great granddaughters: Honor McLaughlin and Harley Savard; nephew Mike Stevens and niece Kim Stevens. They are also survived by so many friends. There will be a celebration of life in Waldport, Oregon sometime in May. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Bateman Funeral Home, Newport, Oregon.
