Randy Lynn Reid

Randy Lynn Reid, 59, of Toledo, Oregon passed peacefully on April 24th at his home with his family, from mesothelioma cancer. He was born December 10th, 1956 to Maizie and Mark Reid in Portland, Oregon. He attended several grades schools in the Portland and Estacada area before moving to Toledo in 7th grade. He graduated from Toledo High School in 1975. After graduation he joined the US Navy, so he could see the world. After basic training in San Diego he was assigned to the air craft carrier Midway, stationed in Japan for 2 years. He ended his Navy career back in San Diego assigned to the Dixon, where he worked in the LAG shop. He returned home to Toledo in 1979 where he worked for West Coast Drywall, Georgia Pacific Plywood, Spiro Landscaping and Lincoln County School District where he was a custodian for 28 years, seeing the 2nd generation of students come through. He was the night custodian at Newport High School, before transferring to Toledo Middle School as a Head Custodian when it was the newest school in the district, then transferred to Sam Case Elementary School in Newport before ending his career back in Toledo at Toledo Jr./Sr. High School where he'd graduated from. When moving from the middle grade levels, he wasn't sure he liked the idea of the little kids, but soon he was making ketchup faces on the hamburgers during lunch, delighting everyone. He took great pride in his schools, keeping them clean, safe, and making them the best learning environment possible. He married Morag Park in July of 1985 at their home in Toledo. He took pride in his property making it not only beautiful, but functional so he could care for it without effort. Being able to mow around things became his calling. Over the years he and Morag were able to add fruit trees, berries, hops, raised beds, greenhouses, and chickens. His greatest hobby and passion was home brewing beer. He would research all beer styles and was able to taste all the nuances of each flavor so it fit the category he was looking for. He was an AHA judge during homebrew competitions and won many awards/medals for his brew. Anyone who came over would be treated to a cold brew and no one was required to finish a beer they didn't like, there was always another choice. He never missed a chance to do a little teaching on the chemistry of home brewing. He was also the president of the local homebrew club, The Good Heathens. His children were his joy. Two girls, Hailey and Alissa, made him King of the Castle. They traveled every summer, camping their way around the state of Oregon, Nevada, California and even made their way camping to Canada. Always on the search for interesting beers and his other great interest, rocks. He will be missed by his surviving family, wife Morag, daughters Hailey and Alissa Reid of Toledo, his sister Linda Brown of Elk City, and many extended family members. A celebration of life/open house will be Saturday, June 18th at Toledo Jr/Sr High School in the commons, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. (Regular brew club meeting time). A guest book will be available along with your opportunity to give his family your best memory of him. You are encouraged to wear your favorite beer shirt in his honor.
