Raymond Sevrine Hoiness

Raymond (Rocky) Sevrine Hoiness was born on June 29, 1953 in Newport, Oregon to Ray and Ila Hoiness, he was the 4th of 8 children. He succumbed to cancer on June 22, 2026. Surrounded by love, he left this world with the same strength and resilience that defined his life. The family moved to Longview, WA where he attended and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1972. After graduation he traveled around to various places, mostly for hunting and fishing. Rocky lived life with a spirit as big as his heart. Known for his contagious laugh, unforgettable stories, and larger-than-life personality, he never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. If you knew Rocky, chances are you have a story that begins with "Remember when Rocky..." and ends with laughter, disbelief, or both. Rocky embraced his culture through traditional teachings, craftsmanship, and a deep respect for nature. He also found strength, hope, and peace through his faith in the Lord, holding firmly to God's promises throughout his life. An athlete, hunter, fisherman, logger, gifted storyteller, jokester, and loyal friend, Rocky faced both life's triumphs and hardships with courage and resilience. He lived authentically, loved generously, and left behind countless adventures and memories that family and friends will forever cherish as "Rocky Stories." Rocky was preceded in death by his father, Ray H. Hoiness; his mother, Ila Mae (Downey) Hoiness; and a sister, Val Hoiness. He is survived by his daughter, Charlotte; grandchildren, Olivia, Iris, LJ, Stella and Vivian and great-grandchildren, Penelope and Clementine; his three brothers, Ronald Hoiness of Springfield, OR, Harold Hoiness of Longview, WA, and C.D. Hoiness of Moses Lake, WA; his three sisters, Corky Hoiness of Longview, WA, Marleen Wynn of Newport, OR, and Susie Leppert of Coquille, OR; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by knowing him. Rocky will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his unwavering love for those closest to him, and the laughter, kindness, and joy he brought to every life he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his stories and his legacy will live on for generations to come. A remembrance service and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at the Siletz Tribal Community Center, 402 NE Government Hill Dr. Siletz, Oregon. A graveside service at the Paul Washington Cemetery where he will be laid to rest followed by a potluck style meal. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family C/O Bateman Funeral Home, 915 NE Yaquina Heights Dr. Newport, OR 97365.
