Sharon L Houck

Sharon Lee Houck passed February 5, 2022, in the company of loved ones and in the comfort of her home following a pro-longed illness. She was born Sharon Lee Houck on June 1, 1944, in Danville, Illinois to Robert Ashley Collier and Alice Bacon (Collier) Findley. Her father was a Marine stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. They moved often during her childhood due to her father's military career, eventually landing in the LA area. Her beloved father passed when she was 14 and her mother was married again, to Earl Findley. Her father and step-father were both active Elks members as well. Sharon had three younger sisters, Dona Collier, Susie Kilpatrick, and Joanne Findley Ice. Another favorite person and influence in her life was her grandmother Nell May Dixon Bacon, who cared for her, taught her to cook and other life skills. As a young lady, Sharon enjoyed riding her horse, riding motorcycles, and was always looking for a great adventure. Sharon was an accomplished ice skater who had the opportunity to try out for the Olympics but chose not to. Sharon attended high school in Glendale, CA., where she met her future husband Everett (Butch) Houck and they enjoyed cruising their '55 Chevy up and down the LA River. Their favorite place to eat and hang out was Bob's Big Boy in Glendale, CA. Sharon and Butch had four children. After a few years they decided to give their children a better life, so they left LA and moved to the Philomath/Corvallis area of Oregon in 1970. Here Sharon met her best friend, Leslie (Les) Grant Newport, who became lovingly known to the whole family as Uncle Les. The family tried many ventures, the Beaver Company Waterbed Store, farming, logging, and contracting. Again, they moved, to Alsea, Newport, South Beach and finally Toledo. During these years, the family grew even more with the arrival of grandchildren. She always enjoyed gardening and was proud to be an OSU Master Gardener. Sharon really enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and helping to raise some of them. There were numerous family gatherings; holidays, birthdays and any other reason was good enough to get together for food, drink and making memories. She loved her family more than anything and was always concerned for their futures. In her final years Sharon enjoyed sitting on her porch enjoying a cocktail while admiring her garden or her family or a beautiful sky as the sun slipped behind the trees. Sharon was an avid reader and loved to exchange books with others and she also enjoyed watching classic westerns. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will have many stories of this quirky, colorful, enthusiastic, adventurous lady. Sharon has been reunited with her parents, her son Richard (Rick) Houck and great-granddaughter Amy. She will be greatly missed by her husband Everett, friend Les, sisters Dona, Susie and Joanne, son, and daughter-in-law Robert (Bob) and Carol Houck, daughter Carolyne Houck, son and daughter-in-law Scott and Stephanie Houck; grandchildren Bobbi Foley, Corey Houck, Brandon Houck, Amber Clearwater, Tia Koker, Marquita Zandofsky, April Snyder, Kaelin Jobe, December Houck, Sonia Houck, Bailey Glenn, Angelica Houck, Richard (Jr.) Houck, Travis Houck, Chelsea Houck, Ashley Passmore, Kevin Passmore and Seth Houck; and great grandchildren, Kaden, Sadie, Kirsten, Marissa, Mason, Jaxon, Logan, Chandler, Asher, Aleaha, Penelope, Paisley, Alyssa, Jessie, Rayn, Isaiah, Jack, Sebastian & Autumn.
