Shawn Steenkolk

Heaven gained a beautiful angel on Thursday, June 8th, 2017. She had a heart of gold, and was a friend to all; everyone who knew her was touched by her kindness and love. Her greatest love of all was her family. Shawn was the Beloved Mother and best friend of Alexis Rene Steenkolk; Future Mother in law to Corey Thomas Shrewsbury; Dearest Daughter of Bonita LeAnn Steenkolk and the late George Joseph Steenkolk; Loving Sister of Tony Joseph Steenkolk (Patrice), Kerry Dean Steenkolk, Kimberly Marie Ott (Ed), and Mark Charles Steenkolk (Suzanne); Caring Aunt of George Joseph Steenkolk, Charles Henry Steenkolk, Henry Robert Steenkolk, Edward Rolland Steenkolk, Paige Marie Jones, Tanner James Jones, Kinley KaeAnn Steenkolk and Kellen Marcus Steenkolk. Shawn was born December 28, 1964 in Toledo, OR. She was a graduate of Toledo High School class of 1983 and worked for Georgia Pacific for 33 years, her most recent position was an administrative assistant to the engineering and maintenance department. She enjoyed walking on the beach, watching beautiful sunsets, volunteering, playing with her dog Sugars, and simply spending time with family and friends. She loved everything elephants, had an extensive collection of nativity sets, and made it high priority to always keep the family traditions going strong every year!! In the past Shawn battled Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma and won! Although she was a cancer survivor, she still fought every day with renal kidney failure for the last 18 years. Shawn was never one to show her pain or struggles with medical issues, Shawn LIVED and enjoyed LIFE. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in God, and the love and prayers of family and friends carried her through the years. Throughout Shawn's life she won the trust and hearts of many, always being a listening ear and making others feel valued. Her life was a blessing to many; she was kind, giving and understanding. Her signature gift of joy was her contagious and unique laugh, her constant smiling and laughter will never be forgotten. Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, July 29th at 10:00 am. Following the service the family of Shawn Steenkolk invite you to join in celebrating her life held at the Yaquina Bay Yacht Club until 3:00 pm. We request you bring your thoughts, prayers and fondest memories of Shawn.
