Obituary of Thomas Joseph Riverman 3-23-26 - 2-5-22 Thomas Joseph Riverman was born on March 23, 1926 in Portland, Oregon, the 5th child of Carl and Eulalia Riverman. He grew up in Tigard, Oregon with his brothers, Bernard, James, William, Jack, and sister Helen (Riverman) Mason, who all predeceased him. He graduated from St. Anthony's grade school in Tigard, attended St. Mary's high school in Beaverton, and graduated from Tigard High School in 1942. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp. (Air Force) in 1945 and as World War II ended, was honorably discharged in 1947, unable to complete his pilot training. As a Veteran, he obtained his private pilot license. Later, he attended Moler Barber College in Portland, Oregon and was licensed. He began barbering both in Tigard and Portland, and will be remembered as owner and cheerful barber of Tom's Barber Shop in Multnomah Village, Portland for 45 years until retirement at age 67. He married Rosalie Hine at Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Tigard, Oregon on January 17, 1953. They retired in 1995 to Florence, Oregon, later settling in Yachats for 26 years. A lifelong Roman Catholic, he was a member of Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Tigard and Saint Anthony's Catholic Church in Waldport, Oregon. Since 1953, he was a 4th degree original Knights of Columbus. He held memberships at the Sherwood and Florence Elks. His greatest joy was his family, although he was predeceased by his daughters, Rosemary Ann and Kristi Joan. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, daughter Cheryl and her husband Ron Vandlac of Sherwood; Grandchildren, Colleen Baker, Jeff Compton of Portland and Vallorie Weires of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 4 great-children, Leif, Ezra, Adalie and Nathan of Portland. Tom and Rosalie travelled extensively throughout the world during their marriage and special memories made on multiple trips to all of the US, Hawaii, Canada, the British Isles and Europe. Always in good health and good humor for 95 years, he passed peacefully of congestive heart failure at their home in Yachats, on February 5, 2022. You may be reminded by his handshake - "Riverman's my name!" and when asked "how are you" he replied - "Just Right!". A private service and interment will be held at a later date at St. Anthony's in Tigard.
