Vernon D Meyers

Vern D. Meyers 83, passed away at his home in Siletz on November 2nd from lung cancer. He was born to parents Tom Meyers and Wilma (Brothers) Meyers in Battleground, Washington on February 6, 1935. Vern graduated from Toledo High School in 1953. He enlisted in the army and was a proud member of the 82nd airborne. When he got out of the military in 1955 he came home to Toledo and married his high school sweetheart Catherine Fieber on February 11th 1956. Vern worked at the Georgia Pacific Mill for a time before he purchased the mobile station in Toledo. In later years he also purchased the mobile distributorship in Newport. Vern was involved in many clubs and organizations over the years including The Toledo JC's, Volunteer fire department, American Legions, and 65 years in the Toledo Elks lodge. He also enjoyed his old cars and going to car shows. After his retirement Vern moved to the Siletz area. He worked very hard to make it a special place. The deer were always welcome. In 1994 Vern was asked to be an escort to a Christmas party by an old friend Carol Brevig. They were together ever since. He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife Catherine and his son Tracey. Vern is survived by his other half Carol, son Tim (Masae) Meyers, daughter Debbie (Benson) Hogevoll, Grandson Brady (Stevie) Hogevoll, Granddaughter Chanel (Robert) Meyers Henry, and Great Granddaughter Falyn Hogevoll who was born on November 7th. He also had one nephew and one niece. He will be missed every day. Military Honors were present at Graveside family services at Eureka Cemetery on November 21st. The day God called you Home God looked around His Garden And found an empty place. He then looked down upon the earth, And saw your tired face. He put His arms around you, And lifted you to rest. God's garden must be beautiful; He always takes the best. He knew you were suffering, He knew that you would never Get well on earth again. He saw the road was getting rough, And the hills were hard to climb. So He closed your weary eyelids And whispered, "Peace be thine." It broke our hearts to lose you But you didn't go alone. For part of us went with you, The day God called you home.
