George N Wittington

August 21, 1952 ~ April 2, 2019 (age 66)

George passed away April 2, 2019 at 4:15AM, leaving behind his loving wife Liz (Ms. Alabama). He was a well traveled man, meeting his wife Elizabeth Hannay Statom in the London “The Cheshire” hotel lobby in 1999. They were then married in Reno, driving on an overnight adventure to get hitched on April 19, 2017. His many accomplishments begin as a Boy Scout leader, football co-captain, wrestler in DuPage county, and school bus driver in Chicago and Siletz.

George also received his B.S. in Horticulture and Soil Science from Southern Illinois. He used his horticulture degree to grow his wife Liz various breeds of tomato plants, purely for her enjoyment since he himself did not like tomatoes. You could often find George in the yard, sleeves rolled up on his white shirt, getting dirty alongside the crew of professionals hired to maintain his “horticulture haven”.

George enjoyed whale watching with Liz at the Yaquina Head lookout, wearing his grey coat and Panama hat on sunny days. His photography of landscapes and Nye Beach would be turned into calendars which were gifted out to his friends and family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Mae Whittington and older brother Jeffrey R Whittington. He leaves behind his wife Liz; stepson Virgil Edmund Statom; brothers Keith and Pete; in laws James Walter Maxwell Hannay, Sean Patrick Dorr Hannay (Brenda); and a multitude of nieces and nephews.
Although George and Liz enjoy flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society instead.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Siletz with a time and place to be announced. Liz would like to invite all of the Siletz community, Siletz RFPD, community waitresses, ALL fishermen, friends and family.
