Barry G Watt

MSC Barry Gordon Watt aka "Papa" sailed into heaven on June 23, 2017, at the age of 84. Born in Jefferson, Iowa on January 23, 1933, to George and Charlotte (deceased). Barry is survived by JoAnne, his faithful and loving wife of 37 years; who has stood by his side through the many years of love and laughter and weathered the storms of illness; who held his hand as he went into his next active duty in the arms of our Lord. Barry is survived by his sister, Rita. Barry had three beautiful daughters in his life, Wendy, Kelly, and Debi, and a son, Mark. He also had five grandchildren; Garret, Julia, Leah, Elyse, Shelby, and Brooke and one very special little great-granddaughter, Leslie. He has always been known as "Papa" to his family. Barry devoted his heart to the sea and Naval force through the Korean and Vietnam Wars, aboard 20 ships including the USS Shasta AE-33. Barry later arrived at the Naval Torpedo Station at Keyport, Washington and retired soon after, serving a total of 27 years in the United States Navy. His sea legs soon brought him to Newport, Oregon where he worked on the OSU Research Vessels; Cayuse and Wecoma. The sea called him once more, to work aboard Sause Bros Ocean Towing. Barry also volunteered for Lincoln County Food Share for many years. Barry has proven his amount of unwavering dedication, courage, and love, through not only his many years of faithful and honorable service to his country, but also his family; his Crew. Barry had a memorable voice and could whistle up a storm, just like old sailors would do. Barry will be remembered as he will continue to be in every heart he has touched and be there for all the milestone moments in his surviving family's life here on earth. We know he will be waiting with an out-reached hand when we are reunited with our Papa again in Heaven. Barry's legacy as a Veteran; a hard working man and provider, makes him one of a kind, and truly an American Hero. "Our papa is like a sailing ship passing by, we might perceive that he is getting farther away, moving with the tide, we are scared that when he is out of sight that he is gone, only because we can no longer see him. He is now around the bend, on the other side, he is not lost, there is nothing but peace. We know in our hearts that he is safe and protected, as we trust in God to still the waters, and aid him in his journey. As the sun falls behind the horizon, we see our ship, our papa, a glimpse of the white sails, and a calmness rushes over us. We now open our eyes and realize that there is no longer a need to see him to know he's there," -Brooke. Barry's family thanks Samaritan Pacific Hospice for all the wonderful care he received.
