Misue Ono

As you know, rain is a common occurrence along the coast of Oregon, but on Sept. 6, 2015 it wasn't just an ordinary rain. The clouds were crying because our dear Misue passed away at the age of 94. They were happy tears since she was reunited with the love of her life, Arthur, to whom she had been married for 70 years. Misue was born in San Luis Obispo, California to Kakuhie and Niju Yoshino. She grew up in Watsonville, California. Her mother passed away when Sue was 10 years old. Since Sue was the youngest of three children, her older sister Margaret took on the role of her mother, and through Margaret, she met her future husband Arthur Ono. They married on May 18, 1941. When World War II broke out they relocated to Colorado. After the war ended, Sue and Art moved to San Jose, California where they settled down and raised their family. After Art retired, Sue and Art moved to Pacific City, Oregon. They enjoyed fishing, clamming and crabbing up and down the coast of Oregon. Sue caught several 30-plus pound salmon well into her 80s. She would often reminisce about how proud she was of the picture taken of her and the huge salmon that she caught in the Rogue River. It was displayed in the window of a local restaurant. Whenever they were in Lincoln City, Sue always enjoyed a tasty meal at Lee's Chinese restaurant. It was her favorite! She never forgot her neighbors and lifelong friends Anne Price, Jim and Tracey Allen, Tom Greif, Art's barber Henry Rojo, the owners of Lee's, Michael and Emily and Rose Wharton and her staff at the Oregon Coast Bank in Pacific City. Our family is truly thankful for your tremendous support, friendship and unwavering vigilance you gave so unselfishly for many years. A huge and heartfelt thank you to her caregivers Ana and Krystyna as well as the other "Angels" at the Sunshine Home #1 for four years of exemplary care and for embracing Sue as a much-loved member of your family. Sue is survived by her two sons, Charles and Kenneth (Marla) Ono; and her brothers in-law, William (Frances) Ono and Samuel (June) Ono. She was predeceased by her sister Margaret, who she lovingly called Midori (Tom) Nakao and her brother Jack (Fujiko) Yoshino. Sue was affectionately known as "Chop" by her loving nieces and nephews
