Nina Dell Hammond

Nina Hammond was born August 12th, 1942 to Roy Edward and Reba Tharp in Albany, Oregon. She went to Eddyville High School, after moving from Albany, Oregon. Nina married on October 14th, 1965 in Reno, Nevada to James Hammond. Together they had Lyle Hammond, Lori Schoepp, James Hammond Jr., Teri Watson and John Hammond. With her husband, she lived in Toledo, where she became a certified Red Cross trainer for first aid and CPR. During her life, she became the union president for Oregon School Employees Association, Lincoln County chapter for many years. She also worked for the United Methodist church thrift shop in Toledo, Oregon. Nina retired as Lincoln County District Bus Driver trainer after 23 years. Since Nina loved local politics, she worked for the Lincoln County Democratic Party.She also was involved with the Toledo Eagles for years. She loved gardening, working in her yard, and on projects around her home. Nina also loved being in her community, through volunteering for community projects, and staffing at the Toledo Centennial Museum. Nina would want everyone to exercise their constitutional right this November by voting. On September 1st, 2016 Nina passed away in Toledo, Oregon. Nina is survived by her husband of 50 years, James Hammond Sr.; Son, Lyle Hammond, grandson, Shaun Hammond, Grandaughters, Amanda and Stephanie Hammond; Daughter Lori (Bill) Shoepp, granddaughter Rebecca Schoepp, and grandson Wille Schoepp, Son, James (Marcy) Hammond Jr. grandsons, James Hammond III, Corry Ayres, Terry Ayres and Aren (Adrianne) Dyer; daughter Teri Watson, grandsons Sam and Mike Watson, granddaughter Tiffany Watson; son John (Natalie) Hammond, grandson Nathaniel Hammond and granddaughter Delaney Hammond; brother LeRoy Tharp, nephew, LeRoy (Jackie) Tharp Jr., niece Ulaina Clark; niece Kathy Kreiter (Tim Goforth). Nina is also survived by 7 great grand children, 3 aunts, 3 great nieces, and numerous cousins. Nina is preceded in death by her mother and father, Roy and Reba Tharp; her sister in law Carolyn (Harold) Kreiter; and her grandson, Travis Ayres. Arrangements are being entrusted to Bateman Funeral Home. Nina's Service will be held at Bateman Funeral Home on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 12:00pm, noon. Because Nina loved to socialize, please join us at the Local 13 Union Hall (old post office) in Toledo on NW 1st St immediately following the service.
