Roy Wallace Conklin August 1, 1940 - July 12, 2022 Roy Wallace Conklin of Newport, Oregon passed away at home on July 12, 2022 with family by his side. Roy "Wally" was born to Roy and Mary "Chris" Conklin in Toledo, Oregon on August 1, 1940. Roy attended and graduated Newport High school in 1958 before attending Western Baptist College. After college, Roy entered the military as a military police and was stationed in San Juan and Ponce, Puerto Rico where he met the love of his life, Esther Maria Vasquez. On October 6, 1962, he married Esther in Ponce, Puerto Rico and lived on a military base until they moved back to Newport, OR and went to work for the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. On February 10, 1965 Roy became a father to a son, Arthur "Art". Two years later a father to a daughter, Yolanda "Yoli". Roy was also known to family and friends as "Wally". In 1993 Roy retired from the postal service and decided that he and his wife, Esther, would enjoy traveling and become snow birds. They traveled and bought a home in Yuma, AZ where they would spend six months of the year and then come back to camp host at different locations all over Oregon and visit their family and friends as well. On Roy's off time he loved computers, photography, participating in sports and watching them as well. He was particularly fond of baseball and was a devoted Oregon State Beaver fan. Roy also enjoyed his church family at CTC in Yuma, AZ as well as the First Christian Church in Newport, OR. Roy enjoyed having conversation with everyone and loved the Lord. Roy is preceded in death by his father, Roy Conklin and mother, Mary "Chris" Conklin of Newport, OR; uncle Art Nicholson and aunt Stashia "Tish" Nicholson of Toledo, OR, and Robert Wallace of Portland, OR. Roy is survived by his wife, Esther, of 62 years; son, Arthur "Art" Conklin and wife Carrie of Toledo, OR; daughter Yolanda "Yoli" Riley and husband Ken of Newport, OR; grandchildren Tyler (Mallory) Conklin of Lyons, OR, Mandi (Scott) Loiselle of Newport, OR, Travis (Courtney) Conklin of Brownsville, OR, Nolan Gates of Hillsboro, OR, Talen Conklin of Alpine, OR, Cody (Micala) Riley of Newport, OR, and Jacob Riley of Newport, OR; great-grandchildren, Travis, Taylor, Taytum and Trayce Conklin of Lyons, OR. Carter and Codi Conklin of Brownsville, OR. Cru and Covee Loiselle of Newport, OR. Roy was a loving husband of 62 years, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. We will miss him dearly. A celebration of life will be held on August 27th, 2022 at First Christian Church at 12:00 pm. Reception to follow.
