Allen Hargis was born on April 5th, 1949 to Delbert and Ireen Hargis. Al served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam war from 1970 to 1972. Al was an Infantry Rifleman, spending most of his time of service in South Vietnam and Germany. He was an all around true Oregonian. He loved everything his home state had to offer. He enjoyed hunting in the mountains and fishing in the rivers. Later, Al worked mainly as a long haul truck driver, and did some commercial fishing with his brother in law along the Oregon and Southern California coast.
He enjoyed tinkering with small RC airplanes, boats, and cars. Al loved animals, and enjoyed woodworking, and fishing. Al loved watching NASCAR and attending speedway outings with his family. He enjoyed riding motorcycles with his long time buddy Les. He was an all around family man and always enjoyed and looked forward to the family gathering and visits. Al was a jokester. He always had a story to tell and could put a smile on everyone's face. During his time at the Oregon Veterans' Home, Al enjoyed all fishing and speedway outings, and he looked forward to visiting with the American Legion Riders during their Friday visits.
Al was a wonderful man who was loved by many and will be missed by all. Allen passed away Tuesday, January 21st, 2020 at the Oregon Veterans Home in Lebanon Oregon after a long battle of health issues. In the end, it was cancer that he passed away from. He was proceeded in death by both parents, a brother and his sister. He is survived by his brother Elwin of Newport, Oregon, four children Shane, Brandi, Allen JR, and Kristy. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.
