Clare P. Johnson died peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at Sea-Aire Assisted Living in Yachats, OR. She was 98 years old just 5 days short of her 99th birthday. She died of natural causes.
Clare was born on May 1, 1923 in Schenectady, New York to Leon and Jennie Posdena. She met the love of her life, Earl Johnson, at a roller skating rink when she was 17. They were married a year later on November 15, 1941. To do their part for the war effort, in 1944 Clare and Earl traveled to Bremerton, WA to work at the naval shipyard there until May, 1945 when they returned to Schenectady due to Clare’s pregnancy. She gave birth to her only child, Gerald “Jerry”, on February 23, 1946. Clare was very proud of her Polish heritage. She and Earl enjoyed going to the weekly polka dances. Both Clare and Earl were employed at General Electric in Schenectady. In1962, General Electric started transferring jobs to other states. Clare and Earl decided to venture “outwest” to Boulder, Colorado where they both found employment with the University of Colorado.
They both enjoyed hiking at Rocky Mountain National Park and traveling to Oregon and Maine on vacation. Clare retired from the University in 1983. In 1999, they moved to the Oregon Coast and purchased a home in the Ocean Hills Retirement Community in Waldport, OR. They lived there until 2014 when they decided to move to Sea-Aire Assisted Living in Yachats, OR. Clare enjoyed coloring, doing crypto quizzes, playing trivia games, bingo and reading. Clare’s smile and sweet personality made many friends at Sea-Aire. Her “bird” Christmas tree was very popular.
Clare and Earl celebrated their 75 th wedding anniversary on November 15, 2016 with a party at Sea-Aire and a luncheon with their friends, son and daughter-in-law at the Adobe Resort. Sadly Earl passed away on January 27 th , 2017 just 9 days shy of his 100 th birthday. Clare was preceded in death by her spouse, Earl and her mother Jennie. Clare is survived by her son, Jerry and her daughter-in-law, Peggy. Cremation will be handled by Bateman morturary. Both Earl’s and Clare’s ashes will be buried together at the Yachats Memorial Park. The family would like to express thanks to the staff at Sea-Aire for taking good care of both Earl and Clare.
