Obituary

Darrell W Miller February 28, 1931-July 19, 2020

Darrell William Miller, 89, born in Cottage Grove on February 28, 1931 to Logan & Mary Miller passed away in Newport on Sunday, July 19, 2020 with family by his side. He grew up in Sweet Home, OR where he graduated High School. He was a logger until he enlisted into the army during the Korean Conflict.

He met his wife Pat, on a blind date. It was love at first sight and they were married 6 months later on August 13, 1955. He quit logging, after nearly being crushed by a log. They moved to Toledo and Newport while working for City Finance. He was a loan officer for the Bank of Newport, until retirement when they moved to Siletz. He loved hunting, fishing & camping, gardening, spending time with his family, and telling fish stories to everyone that would listen. He never knew a stranger.

Darrell was a member of the Newport Nazarene Church. He was the treasurer for the Newport Boosters Club and the Salvation Army for many years.

Darrell is survived by his wife Pat of nearly 65 years; children Michael Miller (Michelle); Nancy Hale (Roy); grandchildren Jake Hale (Sarah); Mackenzie Miller and Jaclyn Hale and great grand-daughters Isabel, Clara & Ema.

His ashes will be scattered on the Yaquina River where he caught a 46 lb. Salmon with the love of his life. No services are planned at this time.
