Frank "Frankie" Barnard
March 24, 1944 – December 16, 2021
Frank Owen "Frankie" Barnard, 77, of Seal Rock slipped into the arms of the Lord December 16, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Memorial services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday March 26, 2022 at Seal Rock Community Hall, 10377 NW Rand Street, Seal Rock, OR 97376.
Frank was born March 24, 1944 in Waldport, Oregon to John Owen and Juanita Rosalie Barnard. He attended grade school in Waldport and Forest Grove and graduated from Waldport High School before entering the military in 1961 at the age of 17 serving as a paratrooper in Georgia.
He met the love of his life Darlene Kay Archer (McEachran) on Oct 1, 1975 and they were married February 18, 1977 in Portland. They lived in Oregon until they moved to Alaska to continue Frank's musical career. He also worked in apartment management in Alaska until the family moved back to Seal Rock. He continued playing music while also working in the Newport area in maintenance and landscaping, and received landscaping awards from Newport Chamber of Commerce for his work at Oceanview Senior Living.
Frank's musical career started early in life. While working outside the Garden Club his mother heard music coming from the piano inside the Club. She went inside to see who was playing and was surprised to find 9-year-old Frank playing a song. She had no idea he could play the piano. He also sang with his father and sister on the Newport Radio Station KNPT in Newport in his younger days. His love of music did not stop there as he continued to play guitar and sing in various bands in the local areas of Reedsport, Waldport and Newport, and played on tour in the United States for many years.
He is survived by his wife Darlene; children Shannon Barnard of Roseburg, Kimberly Chartier of Lyons Colorado, Matthew Archer of Corvallis, Michael Archer of Sandy, and Kristina Smith of Seal Rock; brother Lloyd (Billlie) Barnard of Reedsport, John (Connie) Barnard of Little Point; sister Lola (Allan) Dailey of Reedsport, 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents; children Lola Barnard and Lisa Barnard; brothers James Barnard and Jack Barnard; grandchildren Jacob and Brandon, and great grandchild Hailee.
The family would like to thank Hospice for their loving care of Frank. A special thanks to Denice and Lisa from Newport Infusion Dept for their special care, and to Dr. Layron Long of Corvallis.
