George Wesley Russell
January 15, 1934- January 13, 2023
George Russell was born in Nampa, Idaho on January 15, 1934 to George E. Russell and Ruth Russell Bentley. He graduated from Irrigon High School and then attended Eastern Oregon College and received a Bachelor's of Education. He then went to University of Idaho and received a Masters of Music. George served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged. George was married to Areta on April 10, 1953.
For his career, George became a music teacher at Umatilla, Helix, Wallowa and in Waldport, Oregon from 1956 to 1990. He was a member of the Lions Club in Waldport, the Moose Lodge and a part of the Pacific Coast Wind Ensemble. George was a city council member and served on the planning commission for Waldport, Oregon.
George enjoyed gardening, woodworking, hunting and fishing. He loved to make music, go RV camping and travel. George also enjoyed cooking on the BBQ and smoking meat.
George is survived by his son George of North Powder, OR, sister Alene of Arlington, OR, brother Carl of Electric City, WA, granddaughters Amie of Orlando, FL and Dana of Fredericksburg, VA, and four great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother Ruth of Hermiston, OR, father George of Irrigon, OR, wife Areto of Waldport and sister Beth of Irrigon, OR.
There will be a graveside service on February 10, 2023 at 1:00 in La Grande, Oregon. There will also be a remembrance service on March 26th at 2:00 PM at the Waldport Community Center.
