James Gordon Myers
August 18, 1948–April 18, 2022

James “Jim” Gordon Myers passed away peacefully April 18, 2022, at the age of 73. Jim was born in Portland on August 18, 1948, to Gordon and Helen Cox Myers. He was born on his Dad’s birthday and the two of them celebrated together every year. He grew up in Portland and graduated from David Douglas High School in 1966. He worked in juvenile corrections for 27 years with the State of Oregon. In 1997, he moved to Newport, Oregon, and opened a Christian bookstore. There he met the love of his life, Juliana, who he was married to for the last 19 years.

He is survived by his wife, Juliana and his children Will Myers, Halea Vice (Tom), Jesse Myers (Christina), Carissa Myers; step-children, Jennifer Nyborg (Eric), Joy Hatch (Jett), and Jon Hatch (Kelly); brother, Steven Myers, and sister, Leslie Myers. Jim is also survived by his stepmother, Sabra Myers; half-sisters, Lisa Kennison and Isabel Reed; and 18 beloved grandchildren who affectionally called him “Papa Jim.”

Jim’s life radically changed when he became a follower of Jesus in 1995 at the age of 47. He was an active member of Newport Christian helping lead worship and at South Beach Church. He enjoyed Bible studies, playing guitar in the worship band, bluegrass music, watching birds, road trips, and loving people. After his retirement, he pursued his love of growing and selling conifers, maples, and ornamental trees.
