On December 8th, 2020, this world lost one of it's most beautiful, gentle, caring, fun loving souls, my mother Joan Johnson. She died peacefully at home. It was her fervent wish to be at home overlooking her beloved ocean. And to have her beloved dog/companion Levi at her side.

Growing up in Southern California near the ocean, she always wanted to once again live near the ocean which brought her to Waldport. Joan has lived in Waldport Oregon for 32 years. Moving to Waldport in 1988 with her loving husband and friend Neil Johnson who preceded her in death. Joan and Neil owned the Handy Haven RV Park in Waldport for over 10 years.

Joan loved to drive her Buick Rendezvous, and being the chauffeur for all her friends (she would have been a great Uber driver). She loved traveling, Motor homing, walking on the beach with her dogs BJ and Levi, painting and drawing, playing pickle ball, going to ti chi, entertaining, and continually trying and learning new things. She was known for throwing neighborhood get togethers, loving to have friends over to the home she cherished. Sadly, her battle with cancer and Dementia/Alzheimer’s cruelly robbed her of her ability to throw her get togethers and do many of the things she loved. But her many friends and neighbors never deserted her, and I thank each of you for the kindness and love you gave my mother during her struggle.

Joan is preceded in death by her mother and father Fern and William Brown, Brother Gary Brown, Husband Neil Johnson, son Mike Pharris. She is survived by her Daughter Sheree Pharris, her Sister and brother in-law Linda and Bob Manley, her son James Pharris and his wife Robin, grandchildren Chelsea Shimuz and her husband Kevin, Jeremy Pharris, Greatgrandchildren Jake and Wyatt Shimuz.

Joan would like anyone wishing to memorialize her to please give to the Dementia/Alzheimer’s Association, any no kill animal rescue organization or the American cancer society.
