Lanny S Huguley

September 4, 1956 ~ June 16, 2021 (age 64)

Lanny Steven Huguley, 64, of Toledo, OR. passed away surrounded by the love of his family after a brief battle with liver cancer, June 16, 2021. Steve was the 6th child of nine born to James and Frances Huguley, on Sept 4, 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Jackie, Donna, Jimmy, and niece Misty. He is survived by brothers David, Paul (Karen), Dennis, and sisters Susan (Guy), Sydnie (Bob), and sister-in-law Gloria. As well as former wife Sheila and the ENTIRE Schaff family. He was favorite uncle to 15 nieces and nephews, 36 great nieces and nephews, and 5 great, great nieces and nephews. Steve is also survived by several lifelong friends that were treasured as his brutha’s and sista’s. And of course, his little dog, Tucker.

Steve grew up in Newport, graduating from Newport High in 1976, and lived in the Newport / Toledo area most of his adult life. He spent his early years working in the woods tree planting and logging. He was very meticulous about his life and things, having the hardworking ethic, in true Huguley fashion. He started his commercial fishing career in the early 80’s off the Oregon coast, also fishing in the Bering sea, Ak. In the early 2000’s Steve took up carpentry and spent several years building in the Portland/Vancouver area. He has spent the last nine years fishing out of Kodiak. Ak, as well as Akutan, Ak. He came home in the spring of 2020 looking forward to retirement and was able to finally spend the summer at home.

To know Steve was to love him. He was a people person and befriended every person he met. He was kind, caring and generous to a fault. It brought him joy to give gifts like sweatshirts, mugs, magnets, etc. he’d bring back from Alaska. He would generously give fish he shipped home to those he knew didn’t always have access to fresh seafood. He loved playing Santa and spoiled all his nieces and nephews at Christmas time.

He was a tease, and made others laugh, with a sense of humor like no other. He was excellent at ‘stirring the pot’. Steve was a caretaker by nature, being by the side of his mother, father and brother when they were passing. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand and would be there for you. Whether it was a ride, building or fixing something, moving or financially helping you get through a rough spot. With his passing, we all are experiencing a huge whole in our hearts, all the while, he is now the life of the party in heaven.

There will be a celebration of Life for him at the Elks campground, in Siletz, Or, August 14, 2021 @ 1:00
