Leona V. Nickelson Miller
April 25th 1920 – April 4th 2019
Leona (98) was born to Jennie Agnes Cook Nickelson and Lewis Harrison “Harry” Nickelson on April 25th, 1920 in Rainier (OR). She was the third of three children; her brother William died as an infant and her sister Lorena passed in 2008 at the age of 91. Leona married Mike Miller on April 29th 1939 in Vancouver (WA). Together they had four children named Lewis Mike, Nina, john, and Aline. They enjoyed nearly 58 years of marriage until Mike passed away on April 8th, 1997.
They spent their lives together on their ranch in the Siletz Valley raising a family and beef cattle. They loved traveling, mostly to Montana to visit with family. Many happy times were spent at the Toledo Elks Lodge and the Elks Campground, where both Mike was a charter member of the Elks and Leona was a member of the Emblem Club. Leona worked happily landscaping at the park well into her 80’s. Her own yard was full of plants and tree’s, which aside of her family, was her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband Mike, daughter-in-law Bev, sister Lorena, and Granddaughter Holli. Leona is survived by her four children, Lewis Mike (Carol), Nina (Phil), John (Tama), and Aline, eleven grand children, twenty-seven great grand children, five great great grandchildren, sister-in-law Kay Miller, and many nieces and nephews. Leona was fiercely proud of all her children, and her presence will be deeply and sorely missed by all.
A private family graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery in Siletz.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Toledo Elks Lodge April 14th at 2PM
Donations to the Elks Park Fund instead of flowers are kindly suggested.
