Margaret (Margie) Ellen Creech of Newport, Oregon, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2021 at the age of 76 after a life lived generously and well.
Born March 25, 1945 in St. Helens, Oregon to M. Irwin and Winifred Elder, Margie attended Powers HS before heading to Oregon State University, earning her BS. She received her Masters of Education at University of Oregon shortly after. Upon marrying H. Clayton Creech in 1971, her beloved husband of 42 years, the two would raise three children together, David, Peter and Sarah Creech.
Margie was a proud teacher and principal at ABC and Sunshine Christian Schools in Newport, Oregon. She was on the board of the Samaritan House for 25 years and also a court appointed children’s advocate (CASA). She was an active member of the Good News Club of Lincoln County. Margie was an advocate for children in foster homes and after retiring spent her years teaching and mentoring young students at her home. Margie’s love for education continued as she honored her late husband Clay with an annual scholarship to a deserving high school graduate each year in Newport. Margie devoted much of her life to Newport First Christian Church and volunteering in the Newport community. In her leisure time, Margie would be found reading, cheering on her beloved Blazer and Beaver teams and spoiling her cat, Patches – and spending as much time as possible with her beloved grandchildren Olivia, Mallory, Antonia and Gino.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband H. Clayton Creech, Margie is survived by her sons David Creech (Shanin) of Portland, OR and Peter Creech (Leanne) of South San Francisco CA, and her daughter, Sarah Creech of Portland, OR, as well as her four grandchildren and sisters Nancy, Emily and brother Dr. Henry Elder.
A friend to all, whose kindness, goodwill, faith and passion for education will be dearly missed, Margie’s life will be celebrated on 11/27/21 at 1pm at South Beach Church (3335 S Coast Hwy).
Family interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Newport Christian Church youth group.
