Walter Hergert was born on January 29, 1965 to Robin and Mary. After high school, he became a ride supervisor at an amusement park. During his life, Walter moved to live in Newport, Oregon.
“Walter was a fisherman in our community for some time and with life struggles, unfortunately that job ended and put him on the street. Walter was a very lovable homeless man and was a friend to everyone,” Flowers said. “From the moment you came to town most people have met Walter — the homeless man in the rain suit — walking through town. He was the older gentleman with quite the laugh, and boy did he know how to party.”
“Walter loved the simple pleasures … a good meal, a friend to laugh with, and things to warm up with like a sleeping bag or some rain gear,” Flowers said. “Our community lost a great man that many walked past and had no clue what a wonderful man they were walking past. (Many) didn’t give him the time of day because he was homeless. Boy for those of you who didn’t know Walter, you missed out on meeting a great man!”
On January 4, 2022 Walter passed away at the age of 56 years old.
