Willa R Daugherty

October 26, 1937 ~ July 26, 2021 (age 83)

Willa Roberta Daugherty, 84, of Siletz, Oregon passed away peacefully in her sleep from a long battle with Alzheimer’s, along with other complications, on July 26, 2021.

Willa was born on October 26, 1937 in Chemawa, Oregon to Helen (Metcalf) and Charles Orton.  After Willa graduated from Toledo High School she met Buford Daugherty and in 1956 they married in Skamania, Washington. Her life was centered around her husband and children.  She was a valued part of the Payless Team in Newport for many years before retiring and moving to Siletz, then to Arizona, then Texas, and back to Siletz.

Willa was a gentle quiet woman who found joy in each day.  Mom would begin the day with a positive observation as she would look outside “I see a little blue sky”.  She would find that tiny speck in a gray cloudy day in Oregon.

Mom was always, always busy with something from early in the morning until bed.  Never one to sit for long or waste her days.  She loved gardening and animals, especially their pet dogs.  Mom never ever complained about her painful days. She was strong and she persevered, facing each day and aliment as it came.  Strong, and strong willed.

Willa was predeceased by her husband Buford Daugherty, her daughter Lesia Gaye Elzie, and her brother Charles Orton Jr.

She is survived by her daughters Julie Ann Gleason (Tom) of Dallas, Texas, Lawana Kay Shanks of Missouri and Willo B John of Siletz; her sister Arneva Pyle of Bellingham, Washington; Grandchildren Jerrad Gleason, Alden Gleason of Dallas, Texas; Chloe Thorne, Ashton Shanks (Ari), Alyssa Heddings (Cody), Garrett Smith (Brittney), Charlie Daugherty, Robert Rife, Tirzah  Daugherty, Marcus Warner, Danielle Warner of Portland Oregon; 7 Great-grandchildren Hayden, Tristen, Ryland, Phoenix, Roman, Beckham, and Harper.

Mom you were very loved by your four daughters and husband. With thankfulness and gratefulness, you cared for each of us.
