William “Billy” Brown, 72, passed away at his home Tuesday, Aug.10. Billy was born to Jack L. and Margaret Brown on June 6, 1949 on the bathroom floor of his family’s home in Syracuse, New York, foreshadowing his long career as a plumber with Lincoln County School District.
Billy briefly attended college in Geneseo, New York, where he met and married his wife of 51 years, Brenda. Following her graduation, they followed Hwy. 20 from New York to its end in Newport, Oregon.
Billy loved to read and write, hunt and hike. He was wickedly smart and funny, had an encyclopedic knowledge of music, books and politics and was a talented writer. He wasn’t very people-y, but loved a party. He was terrible with names. He couldn’t hear for shit. He had a soft spot for dogs and his grandkids.
Billy is survived by his sister, Patty (Rusty) of Old Forge, New York; his wife, Brenda; two daughters, Hillary (Jake) and Rebecca (Ryan); and five grandchildren, Marcus, Haley, Kalina, Abigail and Phoebe.
An open-invitation gathering of friends and family will be held Monday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at Toledo’s Waterfront Pavilion. Donations in his honor can be made to Be the Match, which connects patients with bone marrow donors and supports them through transplant.
